Trauma Pets

The Mission & Community Committee of the First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton donated over 80 trauma pets to the local police department. Trauma Pets are used to assist local police departments when they are faced with a difficult situation involving young children. The ability to hold a stuffed animal during a traumatic event creates a physical and emotional bond that instills calmness and helps to reduce feelings of aloneness and despair. It also assists in restoring trust and forming a connection with those who are trying to care for them. The First Presbyterian Church has partnered with both the East Hampton Town Police Department and the East Hampton Village Police Department and is providing the funding for pets to hopefully ensure that no child will be left feeling frightened or alone when confronted with challenging circumstances.
